1) Spiritual healing originates in God's intimate, personal relationship with us through Jesus. The ultimate spiritual healing comes from Jesus loving sacrifice that saves us from eternal separation from God and places us in the body of Christ where we are discipled as healers and servants.
2) Spiritual healing is an act of compassion. Healing starts within the heart of God. Spiritual healing is holy compassion fleshed out and extended to meet health care needs. This healing can take many forms, from prayer to professional health care.
3) Spiritual healing is a gift of the Holy Spirit. The gift belongs to the one in need not the one who is used as an instrument of healing. We heal not by our spirituality, not by our gifting or abilities, and not by our prayer, but by God who makes us spiritual, who gifts us, and who answers prayer.
4) Our God became flesh and suffered persecution and death so that we may be healed. By fully entering into our world and taking on our sin and suffering, He became acquainted with our grief and infirmity. He was wounded/pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the punishment that made us whole, and by his bruises we are healed (Isaiah 53:5 NRSV). Because of Jesus loving sacrifice, we can find blessings in our illness and new life and redemption in our sufferings. Sometimes spiritual healing means we enter into the mystery of suffering and grow stronger in Christ even if we are not healed in body and mind.
5) Spiritual healing impacts the whole person: body, mind, spirit, and relationships. The incarnation and resurrection epitomize whole person healing. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit that dwells in you (Romans 8:11 NRSV). The embodiment of Gods love for our all of creation is the source and outcome of spiritual healing. The Great Physician lives in us and works though us by His Spirit.
